Swanhilde is the happiest girl in the world. She is about to marry Franz, her true love! But then Doctor Coppelius comes to town to open his famous beauty clinic. The Doctor’s muse, Coppelia, is a vision of flawless beauty and suddenly Franz only has eyes for her. But clever Swanhilde suspects that Coppelia isn’t as perfect as she seems. She breaks into the Doctor’s clinic, where she discovers Coppelia’s secret. She is only a doll…but now the twisted Doctor wants to steal the energy from Franz’s warm, beating heart to bring Coppelia to life! Swanhilde must find a way to trick Doctor Coppelius and to break the spell, so she can save Franz…

Coppelia – a modern tale for young and old, is told through a unique combination of 2D animation and live action classical ballet. The animation is based on the decor and costume designs of much-loved illustrator Sieb Posthuma. The principal dancers of the Dutch National Ballet will be filmed in a green screen studio, enabling us to seamlessly combine the dance sequences with the animated characters in post-production. The set will be a virtual one, allowing us to create a rich new fantasy world in which ballet and animation interact.
